“Art washes away from the soul the dust of every day life.”
Brush Animals (Pen & Ink)
Fine Art (Colored Pencil)
I have been creating art for as long as I can remember, mostly drawing horses (I was one of hose horse-crazy kids, who grew up into a horse-crazy adult) and giving my little sketches as presents. One of my parents' friends still has a drawing I gave him when I was 4!
Sometime around the age of 15 or so I decided that I wanted to learn how to REALLY draw. Once a week on Tuesday afternoons I rode my bike to my art teacher's house, carrying a $10 bill to pay for an hour's foray into the world of graphite, ink, acrylic, oil, watercolor, etc. You name the medium and we probably tried it at least once. I grew in leaps and bounds under Miss Sharon, but the real application came during the other 6 days of the week. I had a 'good' sketchbook for my more complicated/lengthy drawings, and an 'everyday' sketchbook that went with me everywhere. If I had five idle minutes one could pretty much count on my pulling out a pencil to doodle something I was thinking about. My school notebooks usually had little faces and figures all along the margins as well...(sorry, Mom)
Through the process of drawing every single day I became much, MUCH better. One day I'll post some before and after pictures for comparison...suffice to say for now that in those early days I had a lot of desire and not a lot of ability. But I look back in satisfaction that my desire to learn brought me to where I am today. These days I hear 'You're so talented' when people look at my drawings and paintings...but what they don't see is the work it took to get here.
Now I draw when I can, usually in the evenings, and usually when I have a million other things to do. But the magic of sitting down for a few minutes (which usually turns into an hour or two), in order to create something with such humble ingredients such as a pencil and a sheet of paper, does a better job of 'washing away the dust of everyday life' than anything else. And I have to admit....being artsy beats cleaning the house ANY day of the week.
If you're interested in a commission please contact me (the button on the far right of the menu). My current favorite mediums are pen and ink (Micron pens are one of my art supply loves), and Caran d'Ache colored pencils.
